About
A small firm, and deliberately so
Hament Advisory is a wealth management and financial advisory firm in Dar es Salaam, founded and run by Hermes Massawe, working with a small team.
Why it exists
There is a particular Tanzanian client — numerate, successful, usually a business owner — for whom the available options are a local bank with a short shelf or an offshore private bank where they are too small to matter. Neither is designed for them. This firm is an attempt at the thing that is.
It is small on purpose. A firm this size cannot claim a research department or a risk committee, so it does not. What it can do is know a small number of situations properly, and publish its reasoning so you can judge the quality of it before you commit anything.
Who does the work
Four people. Hermes does the portfolio and client work and writes the analysis published under Trade Winds, which is the most useful thing on this site for judging whether the way this firm thinks suits you.
Hermes MassaweFounder and Financial AdvisorHermes holds an MSc in Finance and Investment Banking from Nottingham Business School and has completed the full CFA Program curriculum. He began at the United Nations, working in human resources and developing stakeholder management and cross-border governance experience, then joined Tanzania Securities Limited, a licensed Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange broker, where he worked on trade execution and local market dynamics. He does the portfolio work and the client work, and writes the analysis published under Trade Winds.
Anna SarongaTax AdvisorAnna advises on cross-border private wealth and investment structures for non-US African clients, primarily Tanzanian. Her work covers withholding tax on dividends and interest, treaty relief where it is available, and the practical reporting obligations that follow from holding assets in more than one jurisdiction. She prepares client tax packs and liaises with the Tanzania Revenue Authority, custodians and external auditors.
Felister HermesHuman Resources ManagerFelister holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance from the University of Dar es Salaam and began her career in management consulting, advising on organisational design and process improvement. At Hament she runs people operations, onboarding and the firm’s HR policies and controls, including cross-border obligations on labour, payroll and data privacy.
Jesca HermesContent StrategistJesca shapes how the firm writes — website copy, investor letters, market notes and client education — working to a Tanzania-first, Africa-wide lens in plain English. She maintains the house style guide and the editorial calendar behind Trade Winds.
